The Muséum has several research units with medium-duty equipment. These laboratories with their facilities, dedicated staff, own funding and instruments are technical platforms. The analyses derived from these instruments are the cornerstone of the scientific policy of these laboratories and the establishment, as demonstrated by numerous publications.

All of these analytical resources are coordinated within the "Analytical Platform" ASM in order to make their management transparent, showcase their roles in the scientific output of the Muséum’s laboratories and facilitate their scientific evaluation thanks to a unified presentation. These platforms are supported by taking on maintenance contracts, participating in database operations, the purchasing of small equipment and assisting with repair requests, outside maintenance contracts.

Each technical platform is coordinated by a coordinator who ensures the production and monitoring of annual financial and scientific activity reports, sets the operating budget and coordinates the equipment renewal records. He is assisted by one or more technical managers and an administrator. Together, they manage the technical platform and monitor the budget, manage consumables and handle relations with the Managing Director of Services and the manufacturers’ financial services. Each technical platform has general regulations and a user’s charter. It is assisted by a scientific steering committee which meets at least once a year and ensures the scientific quality of the analyses and selected projects. Applications are submitted as they arise or through a call for projects, on an exceptional basis.

The ASM is coordinated by a manager and a co-manager, assisted by an administrator and a coordination committee which includes:

  • the manager of the Muséum’s technical platform and/or the co-manager
  • the technical platform coordinators
  • the technical managers of the technical platforms
  • the managers of the Research, Expertise and Valorisation Directorate (DiREV) and the research department
  • the Platform funding loans administrator
  • the DIREV financial and administrative manager
  • a representative from the Muséum’s Finance Department
  • the Labex BCDiv manager
  • a scientist outside the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle
