Make a bequest or donation

You can support the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle by making a bequest or donation, or by naming the Muséum or its endowment fund Muséum pour la Planète as the beneficiary of your life insurance. Through such acts, you can become part of the Muséum’s history and hand on to the next generation a sustainable heritage for biodiversity conservation.

Your generosity is essential

By making a bequest or donation to the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle, you can join forces with a multi-secular institution and support its actions in favour of the natural world.

You can also make a bequest or donation to the Muséum pour la Planète Endowment Fund. Making a bequest or donation to the Muséum’s endowment fund guarantees a long-lasting impact for your donation, since the capital is maintained and its impact enhanced by using only the interest it generates.

Thus, by making a bequest or donation to the Muséum’s endowment fund, you act sustainably for future generations.

Your bequest or donation will help to act in favour of:

  • research, notably on biodiversity;
  • safeguarding critically endangered and endangered animal and plant species;
  • developing the Muséum’s gardens (Jardin des Plantes, Versailles-Chèvreloup Arboretum, Val Rahmeh-Menton botanical gardens, etc.);
  • preserving the Muséum’s exceptional natural history collections;
  • preserving its historical buildings;
  • raising awareness among the general public of the diversity and future of our Planet.

How to make a bequest or donation

The Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle and the Muséum pour la Planète endowment fund are both authorised to receive bequests and donations and are exempt from all inheritance and transfer duties. By making a bequest to the Muséum or its endowment fund, you can give life to your commitment to help nature and act to preserve biodiversity for future generations.

Bequests

A legacy or bequest enables all or part of your assets, or a particular object, to be passed on after your death. To do so, you must make a will naming the Muséum or its endowment fund as the legatee. You can do this yourself or consult a solicitor to draft it directly or simply record it.

Donations

A donation is a legal act in which a living donor makes a donation of a movable or real property or financial asset to a recipient, who accepts the gift. It is possible to make a donation at any time, of the value of your choice, to the Muséum or its endowment fund Muséum pour la Planète. The donation of objects to the Muséum’s collections is subject to compliance with the establishment’s acquisition procedure.

Life insurance

Life insurance is a contract that you sign up to with a bank or insurance company to progressively save up and constitute capital. Whether the contract is new or on-going, you can name the Muséum or its endowment fund Muséum pour la Planète as the beneficiary of your life insurance contract in case of death.
