The Galerie de Botanique opened its doors to the public in November 2013.
Built in 1935, it is home to the National Herbarium, the most prestigious collection of dried plants in the world. Almost 10 million samples collected over the past 450 years or more from every country in the world! Nearly every species of flowering plant is represented there. It is also an enormous scientific database since 5% are "standard samples".
The permanent exhibition area opens out on the ground floor of the Galerie and tells of four centuries of botanical history, from the origins of the King’s Garden up to the most cutting-edge research. In these new areas, remarkable specimens and documents allow visitors to follow the exploits of the Muséum’s travelling naturalists who, then like today, set off to discover the living world.
