The Buffon Symposium was held at the Muséum on the 18th and 19th October, 2007 on the Tricentenary of the birth of the great French naturalist. Over 200 participants, including representatives from 93 naturalist institutions and Muséums from 36 countries and four different continents, discussed the topic: Natural History Muséums and Institutions in the 21st century: impact on our common future
Three leading international institutions took part in organising this event alongside the Muséum:
- the Natural History Museum (London)
- the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (London)
- the National Museum of Natural History - Smithsonian Institution (Washington)
