Premier signalement d’une reproduction effective du mérou brun, Epinephelus marginatus, dans la Réserve marine de Cerbère-Banyuls (France)

Résumé. - Ce travail est la première observation d’une reproduction efficace du mérou brun, Epinephelus marginatus, dans la zone la plus septentrionale de son aire de répartition (Réserve marine de Banyuls-Cerbère). Lors de collectes réalisées à l’aide d’un filet de type Bongo et de filets de type fixe, nous avons récolté un nombre important d’œufs et de jeunes larves entre le 12 et le 29 août 2003.

Abstract. - First record of effective reproduction of the dusky grouper, Epinephelus marginatus (Lowe, 1834), in the Cerbere-Banyuls (France) marine protected area.

This work exposes the first observation of an effective reproduction of the Mediterranean grouper, Epinephelus marginatus, in its northern distribution area (Cerbere-Banyuls Marine Reserve). While collecting ichthyoplankton using a Bongo net and fixed nets, we collected a significant high number of eggs and young larvae between August 12 and 29, 2003, attesting of effective reproduction.
