NOTE ICHTYOLOGIQUE Unusual
finding of Paranotothenia magellanica (Nototheniidae) on the temperate
north coast of Argentina (1) Universidad
Nacional de Mar del Plata, Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales, Departamento
de Ciencias Marinas, Funes 3350, Mar del Plata (7600), ARGENTINA. Abstract.
- Three specimens of Paranotothenia magellanica (Forster, 1801)
were captured in the coastal area of the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
This represents the northernmost localization of the species. Morphological
and meristic characters, as well as a specimen
photography, are included in the work. P. magellanica is normally
present in the south of Patagonia. With this record, its distribution
extends northward, thus exceeding the purely subantarctic water area to
reach the coasts of the Pampa. Two hypotheses could explain this presence:
either the transport by the Patagonian
stream or the exceptionally low values of the water
temperature of the sector at the time of this record. Résumé.
- Présence inhabituelle de Paranotothenia magellanica
(Nototheniidae) sur la côte tempérée nord de lArgentine. |
