of Cataetyx laticeps and Ophidion barbatum (Ophidiiformes)
in the eastern Mediterranean, with comments on the deep sea ichthyofauna

Abstract.
- A Cataetyx laticeps Koefoed, 1927 (Bythitidae) was captured off
the Israel coasts. It is the first record of this species in the Eastern
Mediterranean. Ophidion barbatum (Ophidiidae) was captured by 1400
m depth, which constitutes a record for this species known
in depths lower than 250 m. These
records increase the number of deep
fish species present in the Levant basin (38) and in the
Mediterranean Sea (58).

- Signalements de Cataetyx laticeps et de Ophidion barbatum
(Ophidiiformes) en Méditerranée orientale, et commentaire
sur l’ichtyofaune de profondeur.
Cataetyx laticeps Koefoed, 1927 (Bythitidae) a été
capturée au large des côtes d’Israël. C’est
le premier signalement de cette espèce en Méditerranée
orientale. Ophidion barbatum (Ophidiidae) a été capturée
par 1400 m, ce qui constitue un record pour cette espèce connue
jusqu’alors de profondeurs inférieures à 250 m. Ces
signalements augmentent le nombre d’espèces de poissons de
profondeur présents dans le bassin du Levant (38) et en Méditerranée
(58).
