NOTE ICHTYOLOGIQUE First record of the orange-spotted grouper, Epinephelus coioides (Perciformes: Serranidae) in the Northern Adriatic Sea Paolo PARENTI (1) & Nicola BRESSI (2) (1) Department of Environmental Sciences, Piazza della Scienza 1, 20126 Milano, ITALY. (2) Section of Biokarstic Sciences, Trieste Natural History Museum, P. zza Hortis, 4, 34123 Trieste, ITALY. Abstract.
- A specimen of Epinephelus coioides (Hamilton, 1822) has been
captured on May 16, 1998 in the Trieste Golf (Northern Adriatic), at 0.9
km off the Italian coast; its total length was 12 cm. This specimen was
preserved in the Trieste Marine Aquarium, and is today 52 cm LT. The catch
in the Adriatic Sea of E. coioides, an Indo-Pacific sporadic species
in the Southeastern Mediterranean Sea, supports the assumption of the
current warming of the Northern Mediterranean Sea. Key-words. - Serranidae - Epinephelus coioides - MED - Adriatic Sea - Warming - First record. |
