Abstract. - First record of the spinner shark, Carcharhinus brevipinna (Chondrichthyes: Carcharhinidae) from New Caledonia.

Four immature specimens of the spinner shark, Carcharhinus brevipinna (Müller & Henle, 1839), were collected in the southern lagoon of New Caledonia in 2002 and 2003. The species is likely to be common in the area, but to date was probably confused with the blacktip shark, C. limbatus (Valenciennes, 1839) also present in the area. C. brevipinna is the eleventh species of the genus Carcharhinus referenced in New Caledonia, and this is presently the most eastern localisation for this species in the Pacific Ocean.

Key words. - Carcharhinidae - Carcharhinus brevipinna - PSW - New Caledonia - First record.
