RÉSUMÉ
Du 20 au 28 avril 1788, trois jeunes étudiants de
l'Université ducale (Université Caroline) du Wurtemberg
effectuèrent de Stuttgart à Tübingen une grande
randonnée : excursion botanique, entomologique et
géologique dans les Alpes souabes. Parmi eux se trouvait un
jeune naturaliste nommé Georges Cuvier, alors âgé
de dix-huit ans. Cuvier se chargea de rédiger le récit
de cette petite expédition. Le texte qu'il nous a
laissé est révélateur de l'état d'esprit
d'un jeune et brillant étudiant qui a agrémenté
son texte de dessins au crayon et d'une aquarelle. Plusieurs versions
de ce récit, probablement quatre, ont dû exister. Le
texte, que nous publions ici, est tiré de la traduction
francaise d'une version en langue allemande conservée dans le
fonds Cuvier des archives de l'Institut de France. Ce texte constitue
sans aucun doute le premier écrit d'un jeune naturaliste qui
deviendra, comme on le sait, l'une des plus grandes figures de la
science du xixe siècle.

ABSTRACT
The first steps of a naturalist on the paths of
wurtemberg: unpublished relation of a young student called Georges
Cuvier. From April 20th. to 28th. 1788, three young students
from the Caroline University of Wurtemberg were hiking from Stuttgart
to Tübingen, making a botanic, entomologic and geologic
excursion through the Souab Alps. Among them was a young naturalist
called Georges Cuvier, then eighteen years old. Cuvier was in charge
of writing the story of this small expedition. The text he prepared
shows the mind of a young and brilliant student who completed his
text with drawings and one water-colour. Several drafts, probably
four, of this story must have existed. The text published here is the
French translation of the German document preserved in the archives
of the Institut de France. This document is undoubtly the first text
of a young naturalist who became one of the most famous figures of
Science during the nineteenth century.
