The Faune de Madagascar series was founded in 1956 by Renaud Paulian, when he was assistant director of the Institut de Recherche Scientifique de Madagascar. The series is from now published and distributed by three research institutions: the Centre de coopération internationale en recherche agronomique pour le développement (CIRAD), the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD) and the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle (MNHN). Its aim is the publication of monographs and identification guides on the fauna - vertebrates and invertebrates - of Madagascar. The manuscripts may be in French or English.
The 90 volumes of the Faune de Madagascar published to date deal with vertebrates (8 volumes), insects (64 volumes), other arthropods (8 volumes), molluscs (2 volumes), marine invertebrates (7 volumes) and zoogeography (1 volume). All but four are available for sale. Discounts are allowed for complete series orders or important orders of single volumes: please inquire.
