Research interests

I am mainly interested in behavioral ecology and evolution. Although I enjoyed working with different taxa (fish, mollusks, insects, amphibians), my major interest is amphibians. I am definitely a field person and spend hours watching frogs in their natural habitat where, I think, behavioral studies assume full meaning.

The main focus of my PhD is the evolution of advertisment calls in torrent Ranid frogs, primarily in South-East Asia. I am thus working at the interface of bioacoustics, behavior and phylogeny. Bringing bioacoustics into a phylogenetic context informs on the evolutionary history of the species calls, central in their reproductive behavior. The torrent is a particularly challenging environment for acoustic communication, frogs have thus come to adapt their calling strategies in order to reproduce there. In the Ranids, i am investigating four phylogenetically distinct torrent dweller groups which present convergences and divergences in their acoustics and behavioral reproductive strategies. How did these strategies evolved ? When ? How many times ? And what acoustic characters are adaptive for frogs to reproduce in such an extreme environment ?

Responsibilities within the Museum

Animation of scientific forum of the Museum, section molecular and cellular biology. This forum is direcetd mainly to Highschool students working on group projects and teachers willing to organize activities or visits of the Museum with their class or having specific questions for specialists.

Punctual interventions for Highschool classes.

Production of pedagogical material for primary, middle high and highschool levels. This material is intended to be a support for taecher to animate an activity in their class in autonomy.
